What Is An MRI?
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a diagnostic tool used to produce pictures of specific body parts without the use of radiation. The point of an MRI is to help our physicians make a diagnosis that will lead to treatment of your problem. MRI gives a better picture with much more detail compared to ultrasound, x-ray, bone scan or PET scan. It is a comfortable, painless procedure with no known side effects. An MRI can show the presence of inflammation or infection, tumors and other conditions that cannot be evaluated easily by other tests. It is the most effective way to diagnose and evaluate a problem. Once you've been scanned, the results are often available within 24 to 48 hours. At Somers Orthopaedics, comfort, accuracy and fast test results are our top priorities.
At Somers Orthopaedics we perform MRIs specific to orthopaedics. The technician who will be conducting the scan is specifically trained to do this type of scan. The quality of the imaging coils and the computer programs we use to control and analyze the images, reflect the latest MRI technology available today. Our MRIs are read by someone who does musculoskeletal imaging every day. MRIs are performed in the comfort and convenience of our office. We currently perform the following studies: Knee, ankle, foot, hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, neck and lower back.
